The Person Behind The Lens

Hi there Im Andy, my dad said “If a job’s worth doing it’s worth doing properly or not at all.” he was the senior keyboard technician for Steinway & Son in the UK, and the army taught me Proper Planning and Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance. Like with anything I now do, I put my heart and soul into making sure all the planning and preparation are done to get you the perfect pictures that you deserve.

“One eye of the photographer looks wide open through the viewfinder, the other, the closed looks into his own soul.”

-Henri Cartier Bresson-

ALLOW ME TO TELL YOUR STORIES THROUGH MY LENS CAPTURING YOUR REAL EMOTIONS IN A PERFECT AND TIMELESS WAY.

I’ve always loved photography and appreciated other great photographers, growing up as an 80’s child in the era of David Bailey and my first camera being the Olympus Trip 35. When I was young, I was never comfortable in front of a camera, so being behind it was a great escape from having my own photo taken. This has helped me empathise with clients and as a professional photographer, especially working with people who might be nervous having their photo taken. If I was to be completly honest I still hate being in front of the camera I have a face more suited for the radio than the big screen, so I can absolutely relate to everyone I photograph!

As I’ve growen older the more, photography seems to mean more to me. I feel this is because It’s a way of cementing and sharing precious memories, which has become increasingly more important the more my memory fades and also knowing several friends who had lost people to dementia.

Rolleiflex Tessar f.3.5

I still like to shoot 35mm and 120mm medium format film. I own a Mamyia 645 Super and, Rolleiflex Type 1 medium format cameras. Along with several 35mm Canon cameras, including the legendary F1 and EOS-1n RS and try and integrate film into shoots when possible.

“It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head.”

-Henri Cartier Bresson-

“Be influenced by everything, including the work of other photographers and artists, absorb it, pick the bones, steal what is good and make it your own. For it is your uniqueness that ultimately defines your work. Anything less is nothing”.

Bob Carlos Clarke

“The definition of a great picture is one that stays with you, one that you can’t forget. It doesn’t have to be technically good at all”.

–Steve McCurry–
